A favorite freezer snack of many growing up, bagel bites are a food flavored with nostalgia. But sometimes nostalgia foods don’t stand the test of time. That’s where this recipe comes in. A more grown up version of the classic, it uses fresher ingredients to make an extra delicious version of bagel bites.

Well first things first they taste better. That’s a given. But homemade bagel bites are also more economical than the frozen version. An 18 pack of frozen bagel bites at Walmart costs $5.58, which is 31 cents per bagel bite. The homemade version uses about $3.24 worth of ingredients and makes 10, about 32 cents per bagel bite. But even though the price is very similar, the homemade bagel bites are more than twice the size as the original. So by taking the time to make it at home, you’re getting better flavor and more food all for the same price.
Ingredients

The best thing about bagel bites is how fast and easy they are to prepare. That still doesn’t change even when making them by hand. WIth only four ingredients and 15 minutes you’ll have a plate full of delicious homemade miniature pizza bagels.
Mini bagels- There are recipes online that detail how to make bagels completely from scratch, but I think that goes against the mantra of bagel bites: a quick and delicious snack to be enjoyed at any time. Mini bagels from the store are an absolute breeze to work with and are still delicious when toasted properly.
Marinara Sauce- On the same token of convenience, there’s also no need to make marinara sauce from scratch, jarred pasta sauce works great, and it’s actually one of the few premade products that are cheaper to buy from the store instead of making it from scratch.
Mozzarella Cheese- I like my bagel bites extra cheesy, but the type of cheese does matter. Not just any mozzarella will work. It has to be low-moisture mozzarella, or the bagels get too soggy. Whole milk low moisture mozzarella is ideal for its superior flavor, but skim milk low moisture also melts just fine.
Pepperoni- The classic topping, but one of the best things about making things from scratch is how customizable it is. Try it with sausage, peppers, pineapple, or all of the above! (maybe leave out the pineapple)
